MYTH/LIE: "It's heart breaking to have a child with Autism because they can't show that they love their parents." or "They can't feel emotion or have an opinion."
FACT: Well, children with autism do love their parents just like other children. They also have favorite teachers and friends. They have favorite activities and other activities that they don't like. Just like everyone else they have their own way of showing their love and affection or feelings and opinions about something. I assure you that children and adults with Autism have feelings and they communicate them if you know how to listen with their communication style.

MYTH/LIE: A person can't have Autism if they have Down Syndrome.
FACT: Yes, a person can have both. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
MYTH/LIE: If a child doesn't respond to treatment, it's the parent's fault.
FACT: Some children don't respond to treatment. Sometimes it's the wrong treatment. Treatment for Autism isn't cut and dry. Black and white. It is a lot of trial and error. Try this and see if it works. If it doesn't then try something else. This is what some of the Autism research money is being used for. Developing a standards of treatment. Current treatments are a lot of treat the symptoms because the cause is unknown. There is also the spectrum to consider. All children with Autism aren't of the same severity (ranging from mild to severe) or with the same symptoms. Even proven treatments such as ABA, ST, OT, PT are individualized. ***Please take this one to heart. I've seen parents judging each other and both parties have a child with Autism. You've walked the same road. Encourage each other.***

FACT: Yes, they are. Receptive language is frequently better than expressive language. Please talk to them rather than their parent or friend that is with them. It's very rude. Now who is lacking in social skills?
